There are a variety of different types of RV out there. We find that most people want the whole motorhome experience whereas others would rather have a hitch trailer or a fifth-wheel trailer that can be attached to the back of your truck or SUV. No matter what your favorite style, one factor that you always want to bear in mind is going to be the cost.
RV Prices
RV prices can range from anywhere between $10,000 and $500,000 depending on the style and features. An average camper trailer pulled behind your truck or SUV might set you back in the region of $15,000- $20,000, while a fifth wheel may be $40,000 to $50,000 and most motorhomes start at around $75,000 to $100,000 mark.
Some other factors to consider when you’re purchasing your RV is the manufacturer and model and whether you want a new or used RV. You should also bear in mind the actual style and class of RV that you will be interested in.
RV Types
Below are some examples of the different types of recreational vehicles:
- A-Class motorhome
- B-Class motorhome
- C-Class motorhome
- 5th wheel trailer
- Tent trailers
- Hardside travel trailer

So, right now you might be asking yourself why the big price differences? There are many different reasons for the fluctuation in different prices in a range of similar styles of RV.
Other Considerations
Some other important factors to consider are:
RV manufacturer and model
Much in the same way a Ford is cheaper than a Mercedes-Benz, there different prices for different models and manufacturers of RV. Of course, these manufacturers have different varieties to choose from. The more popular and well-known the brand the more likely it is that you will be spending more money than if you were choosing a lesser-known model from a less well-known manufacturer.
Layout
Another important factor to consider is the floor plan and layout of your RV. Some are small, with compact floor plans and others have more space with bigger floor plans which are always going to be more expensive. If you want to have queen size beds, full bathrooms, kitchens or large dining areas and living spaces, then be prepared to pay more money!
Amenities
This one goes without saying but the features and amenities available inside your RV will also play a big part in deciding the price! Some things to consider are the flooring, decor, lighting and interior colours as well as technologies such as TVs, GPS and Wi-Fi.
Age and condition
Clearly an RV made in 2020 or 2019 is going to be far more expensive than a model made in 2012 or 2013. Much in the same way that a motorhome with low mileage will be more expensive than a motorhome with very high mileage. So, if you’re in the market to buy a new or used recreational vehicle it’s useful to know approximately how much money you can afford to spend and also the approximate cost of your intended purchase! As we’ve mentioned, the age, condition and features of the RV will also affect the cost and increase or decrease this accordingly. We also highly recommend having your potential purchase inspected by a qualified mechanic to make sure you’re not going to get hit by any expensive bills shortly after purchasing your RV.
It’s important to know the type of RV you’re looking for as there are many different types and classes of RV. We have mentioned these briefly above but will be discussing and delving into these in more detail in our next blog post.
